Commercial Gas Supply Types & Regulatory Requirements
Commercial buildings run on two main gas supplies. Natural gas from the mains network powers the vast majority of UK commercial premises - offices, warehouses, student accommodation, and healthcare sites - delivered through the distribution network into a metered supply on site. LPG (liquefied petroleum gas), supplied in bulk tanks or cylinders, is used where mains gas isn't available, common on rural sites and some industrial units. Commercial meters come in several forms: credit meters (billed monthly), prepayment meters (rare on commercial), and advanced/AMR meters that transmit half-hourly consumption data - the standard for larger sites. Commercial gas is regulated far more strictly than domestic. All commercial gas work must be carried out by Gas Safe registered engineers to comply with the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998, and installations must meet BS 6644, IGEM/UP/2, and CIBSE guidance depending on plant size and usage. Pressure ratings, ventilation, emergency isolation, interlocks, and record-keeping requirements all exceed domestic standards - which is why choosing a genuinely commercial-competent engineer matters.
Commercial Gas Installation, Repair & Pipework Services
We deliver the full range of commercial gas engineering services: new gas installations and connections, gas pipework design and modification, commercial gas meter installations, gas pressure testing, gas leak detection and repair, gas appliance servicing and repair, commercial boiler installation and commissioning, and gas safety inspections for commercial premises.
Commercial Gas Safety Inspections & CP42 Certification
All commercial buildings with gas appliances require regular gas safety inspections. Our engineers carry out landlord gas safety certificates, commercial gas safety inspections, CP42 compliance assessments for commercial kitchens, and gas interlock system design and installation. We provide audit-ready digital documentation through Adapt Intelligence.
Commercial Boiler Repair & Installation — Gas Safe Engineers
We repair and install commercial boilers from all major manufacturers. Whether you have a single commercial boiler or a multi-boiler cascade system, our engineers diagnose faults quickly and carry out repairs on-site where possible. For new installations, we handle specification, installation, commissioning, and handover.
Commercial Gas Pipework Design & Meter Infrastructure
From gas pipework routing to meter installations and pressure regulation, we design and build gas infrastructure for offices, warehouses, laboratories, student accommodation, healthcare facilities, and other commercial environments. All work is completed to current Gas Safe standards with full documentation.

Why Gas Safe Registration Matters
Gas Safe is the official gas safety registration body for the United Kingdom, replacing CORGI in 2009. By law, any business or individual carrying out gas work in a commercial or domestic property must be on the Gas Safe Register - it is a criminal offence to do so otherwise. Registration ensures every engineer meets strict competency and safety standards, with commercial engineers holding specific ACS qualifications such as COCN1, CODNCO1, CIGA1, and CORT1 depending on the work they perform, all reassessed every five years. Customers can and should verify our status by searching Adapt Gas Solutions on gassaferegister.co.uk or checking registration number 542554 on any engineer's ID card. Beyond Gas Safe, Adapt Gas holds independent third-party accreditations that clients routinely require: Avetta (contractor prequalification), SafeContractor (health and safety competency), and Constructionline Gold (the highest tier of the UK's leading procurement and supply chain accreditation). Together these tell estates and facilities teams that our compliance, insurance, and safety systems have been independently audited and evidenced.
CP42 Certification for Commercial Kitchens
CP42 is the industry-standard gas safety inspection certificate for commercial catering environments - restaurants, hotels, school canteens, hospitals, care homes, and staff kitchens. It goes beyond a standard gas safety check and specifically covers commercial catering appliances, gas interlocks, extraction ventilation, and emergency shut-off systems, all assessed against IGEM/UP/19. Any commercial kitchen using gas appliances is legally required to hold a valid CP42 under the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998 and wider Health and Safety at Work Act duties. Inspection is required annually as a minimum, and following any alteration to the gas system or ventilation. Non-compliant kitchens face fines of £20,000 or more, prohibition notices that shut the kitchen until remediated, invalidated insurance, and personal liability for directors and duty-holders. Our engineers issue CP42 certificates digitally through Adapt Intelligence with photo evidence for your compliance file.
Gas Leak Detection & Immediate Response
Gas leaks in commercial buildings are treated as safety emergencies. Our engineers use calibrated electronic gas detectors ("sniffers"), tightness/pressure testing to BS 6891 and IGE/UP/1, and where needed thermal imaging and ultrasonic leak detection to locate the source quickly and accurately. Our 24/7 emergency line is 0161 526 5588 and we respond to gas emergencies within 2 hours across the North West, with rapid escalation to nationwide sites for multi-location clients. On-site we isolate the supply at the emergency control valve, purge the affected system, carry out the repair, retest for tightness, and re-commission appliances - all in line with the Gas Industry Unsafe Situations Procedure. Throughout the incident we keep your facilities lead, on-site staff, and (where required) the gas emergency service and HSE informed, and issue a full digital report and certificate through Adapt Intelligence once safe.
Trusted by Estates & Facilities Teams Across the North West
Adapt Gas is the retained commercial gas partner for estates and facilities teams across offices, purpose-built student accommodation, healthcare, laboratories, warehouses, and multi-site retail and hospitality portfolios. Our engineers maintain gas systems across more than 500 buildings, from single-plant-room offices to national portfolios with 100+ sites, with zero reportable gas safety violations recorded across our maintained estate to date. Certificate uptime - the proportion of assets with an in-date gas safety certificate at any given moment - sits above 98% for clients on our planned maintenance contracts, well ahead of typical industry benchmarks. Every visit, certificate, photo, and remedial action is recorded in Adapt Intelligence, giving estates teams live visibility, one auditable digital record per site, and evidence that stands up to insurer, HSE, and internal governance review. That combination of technical delivery and digital accountability is why clients renew.
