FAQs

Commercial gas installation questions

Does commercial gas work have to be done by a Gas Safe registered engineer?

Yes. Under the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998, gas work must be carried out by someone competent, and businesses carrying out gas fitting work must be on the Gas Safe Register. Adapt Gas Solutions is Gas Safe registered (542554).

Can you extend or modify existing commercial gas pipework?

Yes. We design and install pipework extensions and modifications for new plant, relocations and site changes.

Can you carry out live tap-ins to existing gas pipework?

Yes. We carry out live tap-ins to existing commercial gas pipework, planned to keep disruption to your site to a minimum.

What testing is carried out on new gas pipework?

New and altered commercial gas pipework is strength tested and tightness tested, then purged and commissioned before it goes into use, with the results recorded. The exact tests depend on the size and pressure of the pipework and the standards that apply, such as IGEM/UP/1 for commercial and industrial installations.

Which standards apply to commercial gas installations?

Commercial and industrial gas installation pipework is designed and installed in line with the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998 and industry standards such as IGEM/UP/2. Commercial kitchens add further requirements for catering appliances and interlocks, including BS 6173.

What paperwork do I receive when the work is finished?

You receive documented testing and commissioning results and digital records of the work.

Can you decommission old gas pipework or appliances?

Yes. We safely decommission redundant gas appliances and pipework, cap and test the installation and provide the supporting records.

Do you cover Manchester and the North West?

Yes. We are based in Denton, Manchester, with engineers covering Greater Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds, Warrington and the wider North West, and nationwide cover for multi-site clients.
